Pfizer announced Tuesday it is moving forward with the final phase of clinical trials for its COVID-19 vaccine, meaning kids as young as five are one step closer to being able to be vaccinated. Pfizer's new study of more than 4,500 children in four countries, including the United States, will see children ages 11 and under receive a smaller dose of the COVID-19 vaccine than adults.

[Nationwide] vaccination rates among nursing home staff are lagging -- and experts are concerned that's contributed to dozens of recent outbreaks in long-term care facilities. After an unvaccinated health care worker at a Kentucky nursing home tested positive for the virus in March, 46 total cases were identified in the facility, including in 26 residents, according to a report from the CDC. Three residents, one of whom was vaccinated, died of COVID-19, the CDC said.

And this highly transmissible variant may be responsible for more than 18% of cases in some Western states. The variant, also known as B.1.617.2, is spreading rapidly in the U.K., and has quickly become the dominant strain there, responsible for more than 60% of infections and causing surges in some parts of England.

People who have been vaccinated against coronavirus, if they do become infected, have milder Covid-19 illness than unvaccinated people, a new CDC study shows. The study, which looked at more than 3,900 essential workers, shows fully vaccinated people are more than 90% protected against infection. Even partially vaccinated people are 81% less likely to become infected than people who haven't had been inoculated, according to the ongoing study.

The post has since been removed, but photos re-shared online showed a 10-pack of blank cards going for $12.99. … Fake vaccine cards not only have a negative impact on public health, the FBI said, but it's against the law — unauthorized use of an official government agency's seal can be punished with a fine or up to five years in prison.

An analysis by the CDC found some of us increased our consumption of unhealthy snacks and desserts, including chips, cookies and ice cream, while also guzzling more sugary drinks such as sweetened coffee and teas, regular sodas, fruit drinks, and sports or energy drinks. Over a third (36%) of the nearly 4,000 Americans who were surveyed in June 2020 reported sometimes consuming more unhealthy snacks and desserts than before the pandemic, while 22% said they sometimes drank sugary drinks. However, 16% said they ate snacks and sweets often or always, while 10% said the same of sugary beverages.
